Shaonong is the founder of Chinese Grass Linen painting and calligraphy, and Chinese double-sided Grass Linen painting. Grass linen is a traditional handicraft with a rich history. It is a kind of cloth made of ramie. Because this cloth usually keeps the body cool in the hot summer, it is also named Xiabu ("Xia" means summer) in China. Xiabu is a traditional garment material for the Han nationality in China since the Xia-Shang-Zhou Period. Shaonong’s creation of Chinese Grass Linen painting and calligraphy received the national invention patent. He is one of the most influential artists in China.
